Ray Lander
c.1930 to 6th December 2007
"Ray"
It is with regret that I have to inform you of the death of Ray Lander
aged 78
on Thursday 6th December 2007 after a long illness.
Ray was a well known POGI who later qualified Gunnery Officer.
At one time he was the Parade Training Officer at Whale Island and finished his naval serviceas the Fleet Mail Officer
in
Portsmouth Naval Base.
His big claim to fame was in being the 1st Trainer of the 1957
Portsmouth Field Gun’s Crew who won all the trophies at the Royal Tournament
that year, whilst doing so they lowered the fastest time by a record 11 seconds,
a feat never achieved by any other crew. A great man who will be sadly missed by
all those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
His funeral will take place at the Portchester Crematorium at 1515 on Thursday
20th December 2007. After the service a Wake will be held at the GI's
Association Club at Whale Island.
Family flowers only. Donations to Cancer Research will be welcome, please
forward these to Co-Operative Funeral Directors:

Larry's son Stuart would welcome any information or appropriate anecdotes from
his father's time in the Royal Navy and asked if anyone from the
1957 crew would like to say a few words?
